Which Roulette To Play?

Online casinos pride themselves in their game variety, and various versions of the roulette can be found in nearly all online casinos. These games include the American Roulette, European Roulette, and the French Roulette.

While some may believe that the differences between the version are negligible or non-existent, there is in fact quite a big difference, and it manifests in the most important way of them all – our odds of winning.

In order to find our how our odds of winning vary amongst the versions, we’ll use some mathematics and the assumption that we’re betting on black/red the amount of $1.

American Roulette:

(-1 x 18/38) + (-1 x 18/38) + (1 x 18/38) = -.0537

European Roulette:

(1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 1/37) = -0.027

French Roulette:

(1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 18/37) + (-0.5 x 1/37) = -0.014

The result represents the amount of money we lose on each dollar, on average.

The American Roulette has 38 different numbers on the wheel while the other two have only 37. This is because the American Roulette has two green numbers as opposed to one. This causes the American Roulette to be the least attractive in terms of odds.

Both the European and French Roulette offer better odds, but the French is the best option to go with. This is because if a green number turns up, than the player will get back half his bet.

In conclusion, the French Roulette is the most favorable if it’s available. If not, you will usually have a choice between the American and European Roulette. In this case go with the European Roulette, as the American version should be avoided if possible.
